Researcher: Marlene Forsythe

Abel PENN: I am searching for the given name of my ggggrandfather. Abel PENN seems quite likely, but I've no proof. Here is what I know: 1820 Census, Tuscarawas Co., Warwick, OHIO shows Able Penn, b.1780,PA., m.1806. family: males 2<10, 1 10-16; females 1<10, 2 10-16, plus parents. Able Penn died Sept 21, 1824 and is buried in Gnadenhutten. The 1830 Census, Medina Co, Brunswick, OHIO shows Mary Penn, born 1782,PA, widow. Family: males 1<5, 1 10-15, 1 15-20, females 1 20-30 plus Mary. The 1840 Tuscarawas Co, Rush, Ohio census lists Thomas Penn, son of Mary, born 1816. Family: male 1 20-30 (Thomas), females 1 15-20 (wife of Thomas?), and 1 50-60 (Mary?) Mary Ann Penn and her husband had possibly 8 children, but we only know whereabouts of 3. She lived with son Thomas from OH>WI>NB, where she died 1858-1860. Was she wife of Able Penn? Can anyone help us?

His son, Wm. Edward Hemmeter owned the Hemmeter & Boult Phoenix Dry Goods Store in Medina. I would like to locate descendants of Daniel Hemmeter or anyone who has researched this family, perhaps in connection with the history of the city of Medina.
