Shirley - I'm responding with what little I have on Yosts. The sister of my gr grandfather Adam Strouse married a Yost. There are a couple of Yost farms shown on the 1898 map of Ashland Co. but I don't know who they are.
One person I'm in contact with Yost info is Patricia Yost, P.O. Box #1733, Trenton,FL 32693 - 352 463-1128. We are all from the Medina-Ashland, Wayne Co.areas of OHIO. My Strouses were mostly in Jackson Twp., Ashland Co., during the time period you are looking at. I am going to try and past an outline from my Family Tree Maker posting as it shows everything I now have on Yost.

Hi:
Great site. I grew up in Ashland and Wadsworth (Medina Co.), and now live in NJ. Family still in OH. ggf William Irwin Hunter and family moved to Ashland Co., Vermillion Twsp., between 1836 and 1839. What are requirements for First Families of Ohio? We are certainly not first families of NJ!!!

I am researching the family of John Cannon (born abt.1776 PA) who resided in Guilford, Medina, Ohio pre 1830 thru 1850 census'. He was listed with children but no wife on the census records so his wife (name unknown) probably died pre 1830.

He had several children, two of whom were Isaac (J.) who remained in Medina until after 1860 census, and James William Crittenton Cannon who went to Missouri sometime after the 1840 census.

Isaac's wife was Margaret _______, and children were George, Perry, Emeline, Washington, Adaline D., and (?Charles?).

James Williams' children were George Riley, Perry Curtis, Adaline, Benton, etc.

Thank you for any help you can give me with this family.

Sincerely, A fellow family researcher,

I have been chasing my PATTERSON lines from Medina Co back several generations and am stuck in Wash. Co. PA with my gr gr gr grandfather John Patterson buried in Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church Cem., Somerset Twp., Wash. Co., PA. Have never found his parents or place of birth. My Strouse and Hartsel lines are also in the Medina, Wayne and Ashland Cos. in the last several Generations. Naturally I have a few mysteries there that I can't seem to solve. If any of the information presented below on my two Uncles - Vernie BENSINGER and Hiram HAGANS sounds familiar to any of you good folks - please drop me a note - Pat

I am Gerald E. Patterson b. 1925 in Lodi, Medina Co., now retired in Land O'Lakes, FL.

My Uncle Vernon E. Bensinger b. May 30, 1895 in Cherry Corners, Rt 29, Medina Co (but right on Wayne Co. line) was like a second father. The house he was born in is still standing. He died in Lakeland, FL in Jan 1986 and buried in Woodlawn Cem in Lodi. He was always reluctent to talk about his early life but from still living relatives in Lodi, I have come up with some vague information from their memory banks. Vernie married Ethel Marie Strouse b. May 14, 1898 in Burbank, in Nov. 6, 1918. Ethel was my mother (Jennie)'s sister and my father was Vernie's best friend.

The relatives tell me that they believe that Vernie had a Sister Maude. They say that Vernie's parents were a George Bensinger & Mary Hagans - (A daughter of Daniel Hagans by his first first wife Unknown Copley) They remember that Vernie had a disagreement with his father and was raised by an Uncle Ray Bensinger who lived beside the Idol Theatre in Lodi.

I have not found any Bensingers that I can tie to my Uncle. I did find that the Second Wife of Daniel Hagans was an Emeline Repp (who I can now trace back several generations.) The Repps indicated that their grandmother used to say, " Rip, Repp, Kime and Bensinger" Evidently some Bensingers came to Ohio from Pa with these lines.

By coincindence - a Hiram Hagans b- Oct. 17, 1891 in West Salem, Ashland-d- Lodi,OH Dec. 1971 and buried in woodlawn Cem. in Lodi.Co.- , son of Daniel Hagans and second wife Emeline Repp, married a Zola Strouse who is also a sister to my mother Jennie Strouse. That means that my Uncle Vernie Bensinger and Uncle Hiram Hagans were related. (Vernie's mother is thought to be a Mary Hagans- daughter of Daniel Hagans and first wife Unknown Copley)

I would certainly like to find any information on any of these rather close relatives. It has been embarassing to know so little about my two Uncles. from my STROUSE lines.

Greetings to the List

I have just recently subscribed to this list and am looking for information on the STRAIGHT/STRAIT family that setteled in Litchfield in about 1831 and their descendants.

What I believe I know is as follows:

The Rev Asa Straight brought out his family from New York in 1831. His wife was Susanna Kenyon and they had three children Joel Valintine, Lindley Nehemiah, and Jane who died shortly after ariving. A forth child Barber died in infancy. I have visited the cemetary on Route 18 and have seen the grave site for The Rev, Susanna and Jane.

I am looking more for descendants and family information about Lindley Nehemiah and Joel Valintine. I believe that Lindley married a Lucetta ? and they had four children - Susan(b1844), Catherine(b1847), Rodmilla(b1849) and Asa(b1859). I do not know about Joel's family.

My grandmother Nina Strait was born in Litchfield in 1890. Asa(b1859) was her father and her mother was Bertha Louise Miller. I would be interested in anything about Bertha.

I also remember attending family reunions, I believe in Litchfield, during the late 50's - early 60's, probably with the Straits, but I don't remember. Does that ring any bells?

Any and all information will be cheerfully appreciated.

Thanks

Ken

Looking for any information about Lyman C. ROBERTS. He is listed in the index for East Brunswick, Medina County, OH in 1850. He married Elizabeth Lang in 1856 in Cuyahoga County.

She eventually died in Corry, Pa, but we have nothing on him. Thank you.

Hello,
I am looking for information or others who are researching the family of John MORTON (1793-1866) & his wife Jane OLIVER. Their children were Fannie, Oliver, Benjamin Paschal, Elizabeth, Jane, Mary & Sarah. I have John's ancestry to share and also descendant information (mainly from son Benjamin). They are buried in a cemetery near the center of Westfield. I would like to find out who Jane Olivers parents were and where she was from. Chris Carpenter, CT
