Information in 1962 commemorative book "Backward Glance, a history of
Valley City and Liverpool Township, First Settled in 1810," conflicts
with statement re Harrisville as the oldest settlement in Medina County,
circa 1811 in A Brief History of Medina County, OH.
After much research, the Valley City sesquicentennial committee
concluded that Seba Bronson build the first shelter, cleared land owned
oxen, planted corn at Hardscrabble in 1810; "To our knowledge this was
the first mark of civilized occupancy by a settler in Medina county, as
we know Medina County today.. "township that is 152 years old in this
year of 1962." Book ws published by the sesquicentennial committee of
Valley City.
